Weekend vision

I'm working on refining my vision for our worship services at Harvest. What should we be striving to do? What things should be avoided? What does God want us to accomplish through our weekend gatherings? These are the questions that I'm wrestling with. Any thoughts????

OK...so it's killing me...what is the story behind the blog name? It caught my attention the other day, and I had to come back.

As far as the weekend vision, it seems that God is always calling us to a more intimate understanding of who He is and how we can share that with others.

When I go into churches as a stranger, I just want to feel welcome. The environment should be comfortable so people can relax, and the service should challenge people to rethink the sterotypes that have been placed on "the Church" today.

Church is an assembly of people, and some make it about a ritual of songs, offering, and a message. Make the service about the assembly of the people and who they are and who they are called to be in God's image. Avoid letting people come in and walk out without getting challenged in some way.

Some worship leaders in places I go just come off the platform, and leave. They never hang around as visible, responsible leaders of the church to meet people and find out what makes them go. Those of you on the platform have the opportunity to be a pleasant, welcoming face to people. There is typically someone in the croud who finds some identity and attraction to those in front. The people in leadership have to be challenged to be ambassadors for God's church, not only talented musicians, singers, etc.

The name worship "service" implies that in addition to worshipping the King of the Universe, you should also be "serving" those around us. Maybe a growth area would be to focus on how the ministry team not only helps people exalt Him, but also how they can participate in serving the body and the community they live in.

Have fun with all this.

I figured it out....musicians. Is there a deeper meaning to the title, other than to make people like me go crazy wondering?

As a tech geek, it sure would be interesting to incorporate some of my favorite things into church. When I go to places that say "turn off your cell phone", I just want to leave. Why not say, put in on vibrate or silence, and text message us any questions you have during or after the service. You could even put in a segment of "Real Life" where some of those questions are read and answered. If they can't be answered then, then tell them to check out your BLOG to get it later. You could use a the back office group to browse the questions for the best few, and get them to the "Real Life" facilitator for answers. Put a counter up on the inevitable projected screen for the songs and other church stuff to shows how many questions are rolling in. It could worry whoever is speaking that week, but also engage people in the process to really consider what is being talked about and participate.

I've got more...will come back later.
