Strong words

What impact do words really have?
Can they truly change your mind? Your life?

Words?

Think about it. How many times has your mind been changed strictly by
words? Just words?

Strong words, inspired, and well presented can, I believe, change a
persons life. But they must be presented well. It is in the
presentation that pasion becomes an amplifier of truth.

Strong words.
Passion.
Truth.

Change.

Someone told my brother-in-law today that he couldn't go in our church dressed like he was. He had just finished delivering the Journal, but I can't see how he would have dressed worse than some people there (like his brother!). I can't believe anyone at Harvest would have said that. Those words may have had a devastating effect on him. He didn't go in. I don't know if he'll come back.
I believe words are more powerful than we know.
One set of words that has stayed with me for a long time, came from one of Keith's messages - "Prefer your spouse."
I believe Holy Spirit inspired words are the most powerful. Sometimes the people that speak them don't even realize how powerful (some may not even remember the words they spoke that someone else holds onto for years!)
Now, if I can put the words in to practice, that's another story.
We forget that words are as powerful as they are. It is evident we forget by our carelessness with them. However, when the words we speak are different from our actions/attitude they can cause even more confusion, frustration or pain. People can tell when those words don't match up, even when we can't. And those words change people too.
So our words, even presented well, are mere words unless there is sincerity and love behind them. I love that you used the word "inspired". I know that when I speak from the overflow of the Holy Spirit, keeping God's perspective and not my own, there is always love behind them, even if the words that are spoken are strong. People can tell that too. Whether they're willing to admit it or not is another story. :)
I am continually embarrassed by the foul language which seems to be everywhere. As I was waiting to get my hair cut, two young men (Air Force) were waiting also. The foul language just seemed to spew from their mouths. They didn't mind that there were other people in their area. Some young people today must seem to think that four-letter words are all that there are. I probably could/should have said something, but didn't really know what to say.
The president of Boeing once told a man who was using foul language that the person who took his place would not use such language. The president of the Wichita Boeing plant was a member of University Baptist in Wichita. I think he caused many in that room to take a look at themselves.

Not only are words powerful, so are our actions.
